See you later!

Hi everybody, I hope you are well. Because I am leaving on Monday, and will be busy this weekend (Renegade Beat at The Hippo on Saturday night- if you live in Plymouth then come along!), I thought I would take this opportunity to say thanks to all those that have helped me prepare this trip in whatever way, by lending me gear and sponsoring me and offering me places to crash.

I'd also like the opportunity to remind everybody about the charity. Please take a minute to visit their website: www.downhamschool.co.uk
and have a look at what they do. The money which I am raising will be going towards a hydrotherapy pool for Downham's new home at Estover. As well as all the ways to donate money which I have told you all about before, there is now one final, foolproof way to hand over your moolah.
If you stick a cheque, made out to 'Downham School' in an envelope, and send it to 'Downham School, Horn Lane, Plymouth' then you can make a one-time pledge. Make sure to mark the envelope or cheque 'John O' Groats to Land's End Sponsorship' so that they don't think you're sending them money for school dinners.

JOGLE Update

UPDATE- ONE WEEK TO GO
All kinds of news, some bad, some good:
Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, Thom has had to drop out of the trip. Not to be perturbed (I like the word, and I'm sure it means put-off), I have decided to undertake the trip on my own. That's the bad news.

Good news is, the route's all planned, all the equipment is ready, the bike is having a last-minute service at Battery Cycle Works as we speak...

I also have details of sponsorship organised for all you lucky people who want to give me lots of money in aid of Downham School! If you visit the photographs section of the Facebook group, you can find a picture copy of the form, which you can print off, fill out, and post to me.
Alternatively, if you e-mail me at sam.drew@bathspa.org
then I will e-mail you the Word Document version of the sponsorship form, which you can fill out on your computer and e-mail back to me.
Alternatively to THAT, you will be able to donate a one-time pledge to Downham School directly, e-mail me at sam.drew@bathspa.org for details.

Lastly: can everybody with an interest in the trip, the charity or whatever, please e-mail me at sam.drew@bathspa.org so that I can put you on a mailing list, by which I will be able to keep you updated on my progress, and also details of how to donate money to Downham, etc. I promise there will be no spam, because I am a vegetarian. There may be some vegetarian-equivelent-to-spam. Possibly Tofu.

Facebook Group

If you're a member of Facebook, then you can keep up with what's going on with our dedicated Facebook group. You can get to the group by making friends with me (sam drew) or my fellow cyclist Thom Morgan; or you can follow this link, and go from there.
The group is an excellent place to get in touch, and to keep up with how we're getting on.

Sam and Thom do John O' Groats to Land's End!

In this blog I will be documenting our progress on completing the end-to-end challenge. Thom and myself are cycling roughly 1000 miles from John O' Groats (top of the country) to Land's End (bottom of the country). The benefiting charity for this ride is Downham Special Needs School in Plymouth; you can check out what they do at http://www.downhamschool.co.uk/.
So far, Thom and myself have completed the route planning and equipment purchasing elements of preperation. We have also been training hard to prepare ourselves.
Currently, we are in the process of organising an itinerary of campsites and places to stay for the journey; we are also currently appealing for sponsorship.
At the time of writing, we are in the process of getting a justgiving web page, so that sponsorship can be completed over the Internet. In the meantime, informal pledges can be made over e-mail (sam.drew@bathspa.org) and paper forms are available if you are lucky enough to see us before we depart. There is also a Facebook group where informal pledges can be made, details of which will be on here soon.
Thanks for reading!
